“Do your bIT for charITy”

Our “Do your bIT for charITy” campaign, launched in 2021, aims to give back to the NUS community and introduce our department mascot bITbIT, to staff and students. Each year, we raise funds for NUS students in need through the sale of specially designed bITbIT merchandise, supporting the NUS Enhanced Financial Aid Scheme (EFAS). This year, focusing on sustainability, we reintroduced popular merchandise from the past three years and launched a limited edition bITbIT plushie keychain. Thanks to the generosity of NUS staff, students and partners, we raised a total of $10,000! We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support of this meaningful initiative.

bITbIT’s Origin Story Have you ever wondered how our beloved NUS IT mascot, bITbIT, came to be? It began as a mission to transform mundane technical messages into something engaging with a lovable mascot. Inspired by our Communications Head’s pet bunny, Sesame Boy, the idea of a bunny mascot took shape. A rabbit is uniquely fitting for our IT department since it ends with “IT”. The name “bITbIT”, further cleverly combines “rabbit” with the digital concepts of bits and bytes. Charlotte Ho, a talented student intern from SDE, brought bITbIT to life with her creativity, making it the heart of our branding strategy and adding warmth to our communications. A copy of her original sketch, as shown on the left, now proudly resides in our Level Four Purple Carrot boardroom, welcoming esteemed guests.
